Why Choose More Than Self?
Clean Drinking Water
The water in Guatemala is heavily contaminated which results in parasitic infections and health problems for the local people. More Than Self, a non-profit organization, uses donations and textile sales to buy EcoFiltro water filters for the local schools and for families in need. These water filters help children miss less school and helps mitigate diarrhea.
Helping Women Weavers
The local economy of Guatemala is still developing. Most Guatemalan women earn their living by creating textiles using a backstrap loom or creating handicrafts. We buy their amazing work and sell these items in North America. We then take the difference and purchase more water filters.
Sanitary Pads
Many of the young women in the Mayan Highlands of Guatemala are very poor and are unable to obtain sanitary pads when mensurating. This results in the girls missing large amounts of school when not sick with diarrhea from the local water. More Than Self creates reusable / washable sanitary pads to help these young women still attend school.
